All-new Mazda CX-5 arrives in the UK next year and has been awarded five stars by Euro NCAP.

It achieved top scores in Vulnerable Road User, plus Adult and Child Protection categories.

It features an enhanced ADAS suite, including Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB).

Reflecting Mazda’s commitment to advanced safety and driving support technology, the all-new Mazda CX-5 has secured the maximum five-star rating in the latest Euro NCAP tests. This outstanding result includes a 90% score for Adult Occupant protection, 89% for Child Occupant protection, 93% for Vulnerable Road Users, and 83% for Safety Assist systems. By keeping kind eyes on the driver, Mazda’s innovative technology ensures greater safety, peace of mind, and driving enjoyment for everyone.

For the 90% Adult Occupancy score, the passenger compartment remained stable in the frontal offset test, with good knee and femur protection. Protection across critical body areas was rated good or adequate, with strong results in the full-width rigid and side barrier tests. In the demanding side pole impact, protection remained adequate. Far-side performance benefited from strong occupant movement control and a well-performing far-side airbag. Whiplash protection was excellent front and rear, supported by advanced eCall, secondary collision mitigation, and proven door and window operability in case of submersion.

The all-new Mazda CX-5 achieved an 89% Child Occupant score, earning maximum points for both the 6- and 10-year-old dummies in frontal offset and side barrier tests. Automatic passenger airbag deactivation ensures safe compatibility with a wide range of child restraint systems (CRS). An indirect child presence alert is included, and all approved CRS could be securely installed.

For Vulnerable Road Users, the all-new CX-5 showed good or adequate head-impact performance and maximum scores for lower-body protection. Its autonomous emergency braking (AEB) system detects pedestrians and cyclists -including those approaching from behind- and performed exceptionally well in reversing and “dooring” scenarios. The model also achieved full points for motorcyclist protection, all resulting in a 93% rating in this category.

The all-new Mazda CX-5’s comprehensive suite of Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) supported its 83% Safety Assist rating. The AEB reacted effectively to other vehicles, while standard seatbelt reminders and direct driver monitoring improve everyday safety. The lane support system gently corrects unintentional lane departure with stronger intervention when required. The speed assistance system reliably recognises local speed limits, with optional adjustment.

The updated ADAS technologies further enhance driving safety and comfort. Smart Brake Support (SBS) now aids low-speed manoeuvring and early traffic queue detection, while improved Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) covers vehicles, bicycles, and cross-traffic during turns. Driver Emergency Assist (DEA) and Driver Monitoring intervene if responsiveness drops, while visual/audio prompts maintain focus in stop-and-go traffic. Lane Change Assist (LCA), Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC), Emergency Lane Keeping (ELK) and Proactive Driver Assist (PDA) deliver smoother, more controlled driving. Higher-grade models< add an enhanced 360° View Monitor with underfloor and parking views.

Rated five stars by Euro NCAP, the all-new Mazda CX-5 seamlessly combines refined design with cutting-edge technologies, including a new Human Machine Interface (HMI), to deliver outstanding real-world safety at an attractive price point. This makes it an ideal choice for families, city explorers, and outdoor enthusiasts alike. Through these innovative advancements, Mazda empowers drivers of all ages to travel with confidence and security, supporting greater freedom and a more active lifestyle.

The first-generation Mazda CX-5 was launched in 2012, with the second generation arriving in 2017.

Today, with a 15-model line-up, the Mazda CX-5 remains the best-selling car in Mazda’s UK line-up.

A key chapter in Mazda’s success story, the Mazda CX-5 has been a global sales hit with production of over 4.5million units to date. It’s been just as popular in the UK and this spring the 100,000th Mazda CX-5 was sold in the UK – helping to ensure that the ever-popular SUV remains Mazda’s best-selling car in the UK.

Launched in 2012, the original CX-5 was the first production car to feature both Mazda’s Kodo Soul of Motion design philosophy and Skyactiv engine technology. It followed the Minagi concept car, which hinted at the SUV’s award-winning styling, which was seen in production form for the first time at the 2011 Frankfurt Motor Show where the CX-5 was revealed. An instant sales success, which was praised by media and customers alike for its combination of driver appeal, practicality and style, the Mazda CX-5 is a landmark car in Mazda’s history.

After a substantial update in 2015, the second-generation CX-5 was launched in 2017, while another update was implemented in 2022. Today, the current Mazda CX-5 features 24v Mazda M Hybrid mild-hybrid technology across all petrol models and cylinder deactivation on 165ps petrol automatic models, while the 184ps Skyactiv-D diesel remains in the range.

Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director, Mazda Motors UK, said: “the Mazda CX-5 is an incredibly important car in Mazda’s history. From the launch of the original first-generation car in 2012 it has been a hugely popular choice for UK SUV buyers, who have loved its style, quality and driver engagement.”

“It’s a car that has seen amazing customer loyalty and satisfaction, so it’s great that sales have passed 100,000 in the UK. It’s incredible to look back and consider just how much the UK market has changed since the CX-5’s launch in 2012. The huge increase in the popularity of SUVs means that today the CX-5 sits alongside the 2025 Mazda CX-60, all-new Mazda CX-80 and the smaller Mazda CX-30 in our line-up, but it was the success of the award-winning CX-5 that established Mazda as a maker of genuinely sporty SUVs, which deliver class leading quality and high levels of standard equipment.”

Adding, “now part of an SUV line-up that offers customers a wide choice depending on their motoring needs. The current Mazda CX-5 is an example of how Mazda’s successive updates and refinements to every aspect of this ever-popular SUV have kept it competitive and I look forward to what the future holds for this fantastic SUV.”

2023 Mazda CX-5 sees Mazda M Hybrid mild-hybrid technology added to all petrol models.

All petrol models benefit from improved economy and lower Co2 emissions.

20-model range features unchanged engine, drivetrain and transmission line-up.

With the first cars arriving in March next year, the 2023 Mazda CX-5 is available to order and configure now. The 2023 model year CX-5 builds on the success of the significantly updated 2022 Mazda CX-5, which made its debut in January, so it’s no surprise that the award-winning styling, cabin and chassis of Mazda’s spacious and dynamic SUV remains unchanged.

However, the 2023 model year sees the introduction of 24v Mazda M Hybrid mild-hybrid technology across all petrol models, while the addition of cylinder deactivation to 165ps petrol automatic models, means all petrol CX-5’s now feature this efficient technology – the result of both updates is a petrol CX-5 range average Co2 reduction of 9g/km.

Other incremental updates to the 2023 Mazda CX-5 include the introduction of wireless Apple CarPlay and wireless Android Auto, while the front USB ports are changed to USB-C. Additionally, the 2023 Mazda CX-5 becomes the second car to be offered with Mazda’s new signature paint colour – Rhodium White, which made its debut on the larger Mazda CX-60 SUV.

While the 2023 Mazda CX-5 retains the same 20-model line-up, it now features new trim level naming to match other cars in the Mazda family. The 2023 Mazda CX-5 range features five trim levels: Centre-Line, Newground, Exclusive-Line, Homura and Takumi. Individual model grades feature subtle styling differentiation to give customers the option of choosing a CX-5 with a unique character and focus. The three stand out trim grades: Newground, Homura and Takumi each have a distinct personality to ensure the CX-5 range offers lots of choice for individual style.

The entry point to the CX-5 range is the Centre-Line model, which is offered with either the 165ps e-Skyactiv G petrol or 150ps Skyactiv-D engine. Offered exclusively with the 165ps e-Skyactiv G engine, the stand-out Newground features a slightly more rugged look with front and rear silver underguard trims matched to silver lower body side skirts, black door mirrors and 19-inch black diamond cut alloy wheels. Subtle lime green accents in the grille are replicated inside where the black half leatherette seats have matching green piping. Perfect for an active lifestyle, the boot even features a reversible waterproof boot floor.

Predicted to be the biggest seller in the UK, the Exclusive-Line is offered with a choice of 165ps e-Skyactiv G petrol or 150ps and 184ps Skyactiv-D diesel. The higher output diesel is offered with a choice of front or all-wheel drive. Matched exclusively to an automatic gearbox this 184ps Skyactiv-D AWD Exclusive-Line is the entry point of Mazda’s i-Activ all-wheel drive system in the 2023 Mazda CX-5 range.

The Homura trim is another model that offers customers a unique look, offered exclusively with the 165ps e Skyactiv G petrol engine and front wheel drive, it delivers a sportier interpretation of the CX-5’s look with gloss black detailing on the wheel arches, side moldings, door mirrors and signature wing grille surround. Subtle red accents within the grille and 19-inch black alloy wheels finish the sporty look, while inside the black leather seats feature red stitching, which is also found around the cabin in areas like the door trim, centre console and steering wheel.

Sitting at the top of the 2023 Mazda CX-5 range, the Takumi is a premium flagship model that combines a unified one-colour exterior with a high-class interior that features the smooth tactility of brown Nappa leather and the luxurious textures of genuine woodgrain. Externally, the single colour body and trim details highlight the CX-5’s dynamic proportions, while the cabin features the luxurious materials and high levels of technology you’d expect of a premium SUV.

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 Takumi also features a wide choice of engine, drivetrain and transmission with both the 2.0-litre 165ps e-Skyactiv G and 194ps 2.5-litre e-Skyactiv G petrol available. As before, the 165ps engine is matched to front wheel drive, while the larger 194ps petrol comes exclusively with all-wheel drive and an automatic gearbox. The Takumi is also offered with the 184ps Skyactiv-D diesel matched to all-wheel drive.

Thanks to the unique styling of the Newground, Homura and Takumi models, and a 20-model range that offers a choice of automatic or manual gearbox with every trim level, the 2023 Mazda CX-5 is a family SUV tailored around customers to give them more choice and options for personalisation.

Benefiting from the new styling introduced in January 2022, the 2023 Mazda CX-5 features the latest evolution of its award-winning Kodo Design. The front and rear bumper designs combine with the headlight and taillight clusters to give the 2023 CX-5 a distinctly modern and sharper look. At the front the three-dimensional and powerful grille design is combined with a signature wing trim that no longer heads into the lamp cluster, while at the rear the bumper shape and strong taillight design sharpens the rear styling.

The 2023 Mazda CX-5 features Mazda Intelligent Drive select (Mi-Drive), which enables the driver to select the most appropriate drive mode with one touch of a switch. On 194ps petrol Takumi models the i-Activ AWD system now benefits from an Off-Road Mode, which makes driving feel more natural on un-made and slippery surfaces. Other tech highlights include wireless Qi phone charging tray in the centre console, while the updated range of i-Activsense safety systems standard across the range includes Cruise & Traffic Support (CTS). CTS helps reduce driver fatigue by assisting with accelerator, brake pedal and steering operations when stuck in traffic jams.

Commenting on the 2023 Mazda CX-5, Jeremy Thomson, Managing Director, Mazda Motors UK, said: “the Mazda CX-5 is an incredibly important car in Mazda’s history. From the launch of the original first-generation car in 2012 it has been a hugely popular choice for UK SUV buyers, who have loved its style, quality and driver engagement. It’s the car that established Mazda as a maker of genuinely sporty SUVs, which deliver class leading quality and high levels of standard equipment”.

Adding, “with the introduction of Mazda M Hybrid technology across all petrol models, CX-5 customers will benefit from improved efficiency, plus lower fuel and tax costs, with the 2023 CX-5 available to order now for delivery early next year there’s a huge choice of models across the range”.

Joining the all-new Mazda CX-60, the smaller Mazda CX-30 and the Mazda MX-30 BEV in Mazda’s SUV line-up, the 2023 Mazda CX-5 is part of a growing SUV range that offers customers a wide choice depending on their motoring needs. The 2023 Mazda CX-5 is also the latest example of Mazda’s successive updates and refinements to every aspect of this ever-popular SUV. Since the launch of the original Mazda CX-5 in 2012, over 75,000 CX-5s have been sold in the UK and today it accounts for around 25 per cent of UK sales.
